Our Ensembles

Symphony Orchestra
The most advanced ensemble of the MRYO welcomes musicians ages 14-25. Symphony Orchestra offers young musicians the opportunity to acquire advanced orchestral playing skills by working on challenging and demanding repertoire. It is a unique opportunity to get a taste of great symphonic repertoire in a fun, energetic, and passionate learning environment.

Saturday, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Activities
- 3 hour rehearsals, 35 per year.
- Minimum 8 sectionals per year with professional string, wind and brass repeaters.
- 1 intensive weekend in the Laurentides.
- 4 concerts a year.
- Participation in the Quebec Youth Orchestra Association Festival (every 2 years)
- Chamber music program (additional fee)

Sinfonietta
Sinfonietta is aimed at young musicians aged 11 to 18. Its objective is to offer them the opportunity to develop their skills in orchestral playing, in order to prepare them to join the Symphony Orchestra, the most advanced ensemble. The repertoire is carefully chosen to develop advanced aspects of orchestral playing.

Saturday, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

- 2 hour rehearsals, 30 per year
- 8 sectionals per year with professional repeaters.
- 1 intensive weekend in the Laurentides.
- 3 concerts a year.

Dolce Musica
The intermediate string orchestra is aimed at musicians aged 10 to 15. It offers young people of intermediate level the opportunity to learn the basics of orchestral playing and to prepare to play in Sinfonietta. The repertoire is carefully chosen to build confidence on both a technical and musical level, while developing all aspects of string playing.

Saturday, 1:00 to 3:15 pm

- 2.25 hour rehearsals, 30 per year.
- 8 sectionals per year with professional string repeaters.
- 1 intensive weekend in the Laurentides.
- Participation in the Festival of Relevance.
- 3 concerts a year.
- Chamber music program (additional fee)

String Ensemble
The string ensemble is aimed at 6 to 12 year-olds, giving them the opportunity to discover the pleasures of ensemble playing. The repertoire is carefully chosen and arranged so that all levels may participate; no matter what the student’s abilities, he or she will be included, challenged, and encouraged.

Saturday from 11:15 am to 12:45 pm

- 1.5 hour rehearsals, 30 per year.
- 1 concert at the MSO
- 3 concerts a year.

DaCapo
DaCapo is aimed at musicians aged 5 to 9, offering them an opportunity to discover the pleasures of ensemble playing. The repertoire is carefully chosen and arranged so that all levels may participate; no matter what the student’s abilities, he or she will be included, challenged, and encouraged.
